The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Hoyt Brian Yee has arrived in Skopje for a two day visit. During this visit, he will hold intensive meetings with leaders of the four main political parties and state leaders.
At the end of his visit, he is expected to unveil the stance of the US administration.
The implementation of the June 2 agreement for the solution of the political crisis and the creation of the necessary conditions for fair and democratic elections on June 5 were the main topics of discussion during these meetings.
Yee met with the president of the country, George Ivanov to talk about the refugee crisis and the cooperation between the two countries.
The meetings with the US official were commented by the leader of PDSH (Albanian Democratic Party), Menduh Thaci and leader of BDI (Democratic Union for Integration), Ali Ahmeti.
“We agreed on the fact that the elections must be credible and all standards must be delivered. We talked about the steps that must be taken by Macedonia in order to meet its obligations in order to receive good news for the NATO summit in July”, Ali Ahmeti declared.
“We agreed that fair and democratic elections that will be held on June 5 will serve as a very good argument in order for our ally, the USA to lobby for Macedonia’s NATO accession”, Menduh Thaci said.
Tomorrow, Mr. Yee will meet with the heads of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM, Nikola Gruevski and Zoran Zaev, interim prime minister Emil Dimitriev and special prosecutor Katica Janeva. /ibna/
