Xhaçka: The EU does not have a strategy for the Balkan region

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Olta Xhaçka, said that the time has come for a change in the way of approaching the Western Balkans.  Xhaçka, during her speech at the panel “Building Trust Through Dialogue” that took place in North Macedonia, said that, “our region has undergone an extraordinary transformation thanks to the common European dream and thanks to the support of the EU. “But, as the June 22 , the Council showed that the EU does not have a strategic approach to the region, which we hope will change after the failure to give Albania and North Macedonia a date for the first Intergovernmental Conference.”

“But this is not just an EU issue. We ourselves need to work harder to increase the strategic importance of our region and to have a more proactive approach to integration, not only waiting from the EU, but also working at the regional level to build Europe in our region and to create a common space of possibilities “, said the minister in her speech.
