The World Day against Diabetes is being marked in FYROM by the Association for Protection and Education of People Suffering from Diabetes. According to this association, the number of people suffering from diabetes in FYROM amounts to 185 thousand people (12% of the entire population).
According to the latest figures of the International Association of Diabetes, around 8,8% of adults suffer from diabetes and 95% of them suffer from type 2 diabetes. The number of people affected from diabetes rises from one year to another and until 2040, the number of those who are affected from this illness will go from 415 million to 642 million people.
The increase of the people affected by diabetes is related to the economic development, population, which is aging, changes in food and low physical activity and all of this is somehow related to urbanization. One of the main reasons for type 2 diabetes is obesity and 80 to 90% of people suffering from this type of diabetes are obese. /balkaneu.com/
