The Geek government presented in the Eurogroup a comprehensive reform proposal, said at the press conference after the conclusion of the meeting, Greek Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis.

“In today’s Eurogroup, the Greek government sent a strong message by presenting a comprehensive proposal that will put an end to Greek drama.

We explained that the two sides have come quite close, at least in the fiscal part we are closer (to 0.5%). The real reason that the previous negotiations broke down is that representatives of institutions had a mandate to negotiate the substance of the measures and had no mandate to discuss our proposals for public debt.

The presidency of the Eurogroup chose to focus on the responsibilities of the Greek side.

It is not time to apportion blame to one side or the other. It is the responsibility of all of Europe’s political leaders”, Varoufakis said.

“What society needs are profound social reforms and that is what we presented in Brusells Group. Greece has made the largest fiscal adjustments”, Varoufakis said among other things.

What Greece requested in Thursday’s Eurogroup

“The Greek government called on partners to proceed altogether to a very fast, effective negotiation at Finance ministerial level or even better at Head of State level”,  Varoufakis noted, explaining the request of Greece in today’s Eurogroup.

“The time left is not much, but it is sufficient to achieve a beneficial agreement that will put the crisis off the headlines and also inspire public confidence in our politicians and the European institutions”, concluded the Greek Finance Minister.
