European Commissioner for Enlargement Olivier Varhelyi today called for the first Intergovernmental Conferences with Albania and North Macedonia to take place.
Commissioner Varhelyi attended today a video conference of European Affairs Ministers chaired by German Minister for European Affairs Michael Roth, as Germany holds the six-month rotating EU Presidency until the end of 2020.
In a Twitter post, Varhelyi stressed that work to approve the negotiating framework for Albania and NorthMacedonia must continue.

“At the video meeting of Europe Ministers General Affairs Council today: Work should continue and it’s important that negotiating frameworks with Albania and North Macedonia are agreed as soon as possible, so [the] first Intergovernmental Conferences can be held this year“, Varhelyi wrote.
He continued: “All need to continue the efforts to resolve the open issues. I am in contact with the German EU Presidency and all relevant parties in support of finding a solution“. /ibna
