Slovenian MEP, Ivo Vajgls is the new rapporteur of the European Parliament on FYROM.
He replaces in this post the Euro MP, Richard Howitt, who has acted as a rapporteur by drafting reports on the progress of the political developments and reforms in the country, but he has also addressed complaints to Skopje.
Vajgl comes from ALDE (European Liberal Party) and he’s on his second term as an MEP.
Vajgl is a career diplomat born in Maribor in 1943. He has been a Foreign Minister in Slovenia in 2004 and then an advisor for foreign policy in the cabinet of former president Janez Drnoshek until 2007.
In this year’s elections for the European Parliament, Vajgl ran as an independent candidate and managed to secure the necessary votes, as he has enjoyed the respect of Slovenian voters. Vajgl has disagreements with the policies of his party, known as ZARES, which was Euro skeptic.
Beside him, the other Slovenian MEP, Alojz Peterle will co chair the Mixed Parliamentary Committee between the European Parliament and FYROM. /ibna/
