US ambassador to Pristina, Tracy Ann Jacobson has called upon state leaders in Kosovo to create the Special Tribunal.
Otherwise, she says that USA and other strategic partners of Kosovo, will not block this process at the United Nations.
On the occasion of USAID’s activity “Engagement for Equality”, Jacobson said that the government of Kosovo cannot risk the continuous legitimacy and reputation as a result of a small number of people who cannot be indicted.
Jacobson said that the government is expected to receive the last draft for the Special Tribunal which has been presented in Brussels.
“I hope the government will soon take a decision on this, in order to send it to parliament and for parliament to then decide. We all know the alternative of this-if the government and parliament of Kosovo do not approve this, then the United States of America and other strategic partners of Kosovo will not block this decision in the United Nations. Therefore, I call on all state leaders in Kosovo to take this decision in order not to risk the reputation of Kosovo for the sake of a small number of people who cannot be indicted”, she said.
Jacobson said that there have been many rounds of difficult negotiations, but at the end, a final draft has been compiled and which is considered to be the best.
US ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, called on MPs in Kosovo to vote in favor of the Special Tribunal.
The American diplomat said that addressing the past is the key to move forward in the Euro Atlantic integration.
Meanwhile, parliament has postponed the voting for the creation of the Special Tribunal, as the majority didn’t have the necessary votes.
Some PDK MPs are still not convinced on voting in favor of the creation of this institution, which would try the former leaders of KLA on allegations of war crimes committed in 1999 and 2000.
Self Determination, Incentive and AKK are against the creation of this tribunal. /ibna/
