The European Union and United States of America are warning Kosovo that the violent incidents in the framework of the debate for the demarcation with Montenegro and the return of Serbs to their homes, threaten the progress that has been reached and the lifting of visas by the EU.
US embassy to Pristina has issued a press statement where it has condemned the violence recently manifested in Kosovo.
“We condemn the use of violence to attain political objectives in Kosovo. We demand for Kosovo leaders to condemn it”, the reaction says.
USA warns that Kosovo cannot expect progress in the aspect of European Atlantic integration unless all sides engage in a peaceful dialogue, democracy and rule of law.
Fajon: Violence prevents the lifting of the visa regime
Rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Tanja Fajon says that violence and incidents in Kosovo may cause difficulties in the lifting of the visa regime by Brussels.
According to her, demarcation may guarantee progress in the process of the lifting of visas.
“We will see how the voting on demarcation goes. I believe that we will have a positive result. This is what we all expect in Brussels”, she said.
The opposition believes that the agreement of Kosovo for the demarcation with Montenegro will cause the country a loss of 8200 hectares of land. The parliament session on the issue of demarcation will be held on Thursday, 1 September. /balkaneu.com/
