United States of America have welcomed the decreeing of the law which forbids participation in armed conflicts outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, signed yesterday by president Atifete Jahjaga.
“The United States Embassy extends its warm congratulations to President Jahjaga and the Kosovo Assembly on the passing and signing into law the Foreign Terrorist Fighter legislation. This legislation is an important instrument in a broader strategy of fighting violent extremism. The United States values its partnership with Kosovo in the global fight against violent extremism, and will continue working with Kosovo to promote government-wide cooperation and an interagency strategy to combat it.”
The embassy says that all the mechanisms of security and justice in Kosovo are doing their job and are engaged in preventing the participation of Kosovo’s nationals in foreign conflicts, while the law that was passed by Kosovo Assembly will have an impact on preventing this phenomenon.
Meanwhile, Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Hashim Thaci declared a few days ago in Vienna, Austria that the number of Kosovars fighting in Syria and Iraq had fallen from 195 last year to 50. /ibna/
