Tirana, 18 March 2016/Independent Balkan News Agency
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha has personally announced his meeting with the assistant Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, in the framework of a visit that he is holding in the USA. In a posting on Facebook, Mr. Basha says: “USA will help Albania hold free and honest elections as a prerequisite to move forward for its development and its EU integration path”.
Mr. Basha’s declaration comes at a time when there have been interesting developments in Tirana. The majority has warned the opposition that if it doesn’t approve the reform in the justice system, the country will face early elections.
On the other hand, the opposition declared that it wants early elections with a technical government.
Political experts consider these declarations as part of the political game. According to the law, the elections will be held in mid 2017 and these elections coincide with the election of the president of the republic. /ibna/
