The spokesman of the UN’s Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric has said that “UNMIK will continue to remain in Kosovo”.
“The mission in Kosovo operates under the UN Security Council mandate. For as long as this mandate continues, we will be present with our mission there”, he said. Meanwhile, political leaders in Kosovo have requested for the mission to end its presence in Kosovo.
In a conference hosted in New York on the 10th anniversary of the independence of Kosovo, deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj said that “UNMIK has completed its mission and it would be best if sources are used in other countries of the world, where there’s more need than in Kosovo”.
UNMIK mission in Kosovo operates under resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council. The scope of the mission has changed depending on changes taken place in Kosovo’s reality. But, it is the UN Security Council that decides whether or not to put an end to this mission. /balkaneu.com/
