The Union of Flour Producers of Albania has decided to shut down its activity, based on a decision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Administration of Waters.
The news was announced by the Union, which said through a press release that “Yesterday’s instruction of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Administration of Waters for the reduction of the percentage of protein from 12.5% to 9%, not only destroys and closes domestic industry, but at the same time, it’s also a potential risk for the health of the people, as this favors the introduction of flour which do not have nutritious values for the Albanian consumer”.
The Union itself has considered this decision as unexpected, not explained and not consulted with the business.
“The standard for the level of the percentage of protein for flour is independently decided by every state, referring to the needs for protein and the way the consumer receives it. Meanwhile, in our country, protein is mainly received through bread”, says the Union. /ibna/
