At 24.4% stood the unemployment rate in January compared to the revised 24.3% in December last year, according to figures published by ELSTAT on Thursday.
The number of unemployed amounted to 1,169,119 people, an increase of 3,570 compared to December. The employed decreased by 25 216 people in January compared to a month earlier and amounted to 3,613,843.
Unemployment had reached a record level in September 2013, at 27.9%. The rate is still more than double compared to the eurozone average, which stood at 10.3% in January.
