The unemployment rate in Cyprus rosestood at to 11.3%in December, from 11.1% in November, while it was down 1.5% compared to December 2016, when it was 12.8%, according to data of the European Commission’s statistical service.
More specifically, the number of unemployed in December 2018 was 49,000, while specifically for youth unemployment, it stood at 25%.
The average unemployment rate in December in the European Union and the euro area was 8.7 per cent and 7.3 per cent respectively, while Cyprus’s jobless ratio was the third highest in both the European Union and the euro area. Greece and Spain had the highest unemployment rates with 20.7% and 16.4 % respectively.
According to Eurostat, Czech Republic had the lowest unemployment rate, with 2.3%, followed by the 3.6%in Germany and Malta.
Finally, the unemployment ratio in Cyprus among males and females in December was 11.1% and 11.4% respectively./IBNA
