Unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices decreased in September 2016 by 4.358 persons or 11,4% in comparison with September 2015.
According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus the decrease was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (a decrease of 1.219 unemployed persons), manufacturing (a decrease of 672), trade (a decrease of 540), public administration (a decrease of 457), accommodation and food service activities (a decrease of 456), transportation (a decrease of 438) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 536).
The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of September 2016, reached 34.007 persons. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for September 2016 decreased to 37.115 persons in comparison to 37.326 in the previous month and 41.868 persons in September 2015.
The number of registered unemployed for September 2016 is at the levels of September 2012, when unemployed persons were 37.537 before soared to 51.157 in September 2013. In September 2016 it was recorded the lowest number of unemployed since August 2012.
