UN Secretary General, Antionio Gutierrez has said that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina requires a stronger commitment.
In the quarterly report about the work of UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) covering the period from 16 July to 15 October, Guterres said that this mission will continue to support peace and long-term stability and that “sustainable progress” is possible to be achieved in the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
Gutierrez said that the EU backs the efforts made by the European Union in brokering dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, adding that the UN mission is working “to build trust between communities in Kosovo”, because according to him, “this has a direct impact on the progress of political negotiations”.
The UN Secretary General welcomed the efforts made by the institutions of Kosovo “to maintain a peaceful environment” following the June 11 snap elections.
Guterres also called on political leaders in Kosovo to pay more attention to the public’s comments on the mechanisms of international justice, such as the Special Tribunal on War Crimes in Kosovo. /balkaneu.com/
