UN: Kosovo and Serbia should avoid provocative declarations

UN Secretary General, Antonio Guteres has voiced his concerns on the latest tension between Kosovo and Serbia, in particular after the arrest of the head of the so called Office for Kosovo at the Serb Government, Marko Djuric.

“I’m concerned about the recent deterioration of relations between Pristina and Belgrade, especially after the arrest of the head of the Office for Kosovo at the Serb Government, Marko Djuric on 26 March. I call on both sides to avoid provocative rhetoric and declarations”, Guteres says.

The UN top official calls on both sides to push the dialogue forward, adding that dialogue between the two countries has been blocked again.

“Dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade brokered by the European Union, has entered a new phase of gridlock. I call on all sides to push dialogue forward in order for all the agreements reached so far to be implemented”, Guterres added.

Meanwhile,  Guterres also commended the work of the institutions of Kosovo in the ratification of the border deal with Montenegro, a process which was waiting to be finalized in the past three years. /ibna/
