Ministry of Interior (MoI) said today that it has arrested 18 people, accused of their involvement in the violent turmoil last night in Skopje. This protest escalated with vandal acts. Several bars were burned down and roads were blocked in the streets of Gorce Petrov quarter in Skopje. Everything came after the murder of the young Macedonian, Angel Petkovski.
“18 people have been arrested for inciting destruction and for setting fire, causing material damages during last night’s protests in the Gorce Petrov quarter. Five of the arrested persons are minors”, declared the minister of Interior, Gordana Jankulovska.
She warned that there’s information that fresh protests will be held this evening.
“We have been informed through social networks that citizens are planning to express their discontent and revolt during the evening hours. We appeal for all citizens to restrain themselves from turmoil and violence and for normality to come back to this quarter”, declared minister Jankulovska.
Appeals have been launched to continue the protests and to express revolt. A part of the comments in several portals launch racist messages against Albanians.
Ministry of Interior has shut down today a part of the roads, especially at the entry from Tetovo to Skopje. Cars are being diverted to a roundabout that links other parts of the city. Several roads inside Skopje have also been shut down. /ibna/
