Turkey’s Minister of Energy Affairs Fatih Donmez declared the continuation of Turkey’s drilling operations in the Eastern Mediterranean. In an interview with NTV television the Turkish minister claimed that “the Greek-Cypriot administration (Cyprus) acts as if it is the sole owner of the island. Therefore, we as well will continue to operate in our own continental shelf and in areas licensed by the ‘TRNC’.
He added that drilling rigs would continue to operate in the area around Cyprus, though without further explaining where Yavuz would be heading next, after sailing off the Cypriot EEZ a few days ago.
“Our driller Yavuz has completed its drilling operations in Karpasia, and can currently be found in Mersin preparing for its next drilling. Fatih continues its activity in a region we call Guzelyurt (Morphou). We are all for the fair distribution of hydrocarbons and we have made it clear that, being a guarantor force, we can be helpful during this process”. /ibna
