In a strong way replied the Turkish Foreign Ministry, through its representative Tanju Bilgiç, to the statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry regarding the reading of the Qur’an inside Agia Sophia”.
“Tthe statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry regarding the broadcast of TRT, which is broadcasted from the Hagia Sophia during Ramadan is unacceptable.
We urge caution to Greece, which does not allow the construction of a mosque in its capital, which often interferes in the religious freedoms of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and confuses modernisation with anti-islamism, in the style it keeps and the announcements it makes.
In this context, we would like to remind that modern, democratic and secular societies also have values of respect for other religions and prayers”, the statement writes.
