Turkish Foreign Ministry conveys strong criticism to the US ambassador

According to Anadolu news agency, the US ambassador to Turkey was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday morning, after a vote by the US House of Representatives that approved a resolution recognizing the genocide of Armenians and the bill for the imposition of sanctions to Turkey for the military operation “Peace Source”.

Turkish authorities have voiced strong criticism to David Satterfield for Tuesday’s vote on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the new sanctions on Turkey for its counterterrorism action in northern Syria, said Anadolu sources, which asked to remain anonymous, due media restrictions on speech.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement rejecting the US resolution, which is not legally binding. “The resolution, which has apparently been drafted and adopted for domestic consumption, lacks any historical or legal basis”, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement referring to the events of 1915./ibna
