A Turkish gendarmerie source who spoke to the press on Monday, on condition of anonymity because of restrictions on talking to journalists, told Anadolu news agency that a total “of 351 irregular migrants have been held in Turkey’s northwestern Edirne province”, only minutes away from one of northern Greek border stations in the prefecture of Evros.
As the source said, Turkish authorities carried out a three-day inspection in the wider area of Edirne, Uzunkopru and Ipsala during which they came across 351 “irregular migrants” (without travelling or ID documents). Allegedly, their next move would be to try and cross into Greece and Bulgaria, as understood, through illegal routes and -probably- with the help of human traffickers.
