Turkish Minister of Energy Fatih Donmez arrived in Nicosia, where he met with the Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
The Turkish Minister initially sent a positive message, stressing that “natural wealth is an important factor not for conflicts to arise, but for peace and prosperity to exist on the island; as a nation we are ready, if requested, to contribute to the talks. We will not accept, though, the Greek-Cypriot administration to regard itself as the sole sovereign of the island and as the solemn producer, who will be able to proceed to unilateral activities. As our President has stated, we will fully support the rights and interests of our expatriates in Northern Cyprus”, he stated.
Meanwhile, he stressed that Ankara welcomed Akinci’s proposal to set up a joint commission in order to distribute the natural wealth’s proceeds, while adding that he hoped the Greek-Cypriot side would accept it./ibna
