Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is getting ready to inaugurate a new production plant in Istanbul, Turkey, which will employ 2,000 people.
Chinese electronics mogul Xiaomi launched a joint production plant in Istanbul on Monday alongside supplier tycoon Salcomp.
The company announced its plans for a new factory in Turkey in February, investing $30m.
Turkey is the fourth country in the world with an established Xiaomi branch.
In a message at the inauguration ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey offers significant opportunities for foreign investors due to its workforce and position strategy.
Turkey is open to requests from foreign investors to build research, development and planning centers in the country, he stressed.
With construction already underway, the factory will cover an area of 14,000 square meters, will have the capacity to produce five million units per year and will create 2,000 jobs. /ibna
