The Turkish Foreign Minister had a telephone conversation with his American counterpart on Monday, according to diplomatic sources.
According to the same sources, Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed issues related to the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (TRNC) and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The American official visited Cyprus last Saturday, where he met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, where they signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Training Center on security issues in Cyprus. There were also discussions regarding the lifting of the arms embargo imposed on the Republic of Cyprus.
Turkey rejected both moves, saying Pompeo should have also visited the “TRNC” and that the lifting of the arms embargo only increases tensions in the region./ibna
