Turkey flies medical aid to the United Kingdom

Another Turkish military transport aircraft dispatched medical supplies to the United Kingdom to battle the coronavirus pandemic, as the Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Friday.

“Our Turkish Armed Forces plane carrying medical supplies prepared for the UK to help combat the COVID-19 virus has landed in London”, the Turkish Defense Ministry posted on Twitter.

Earlier on Friday morning, the Ministry of Defense tweeted that “At the direction of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Armed Forces aircraft that will transport to United Kingdom the medical aid supplies prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Health to be used in the fight against COVID-19 has departed Etimesgut/Ankara”.

On the boxes containing the medical equipment there was a message addressed to the citizens of the United Kingdom that read: “After despair, there is so much hope and after darkness, there is a much brighter sun”, Rumi.

The aid package includes protective masks and special work uniforms.

On Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab had a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during which he thanked Turkey for sending medical aid to help fight the pandemic, as diplomatic sources report, with the British Foreign Minister describing this move as “a sign of strong friendship between the two countries”.

Turkey has also delivered medical aid to five Balkan countries, including Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo on Wednesday, as well as Italy and Spain – the European countries most heavily affected by the virus- last week. /ibna
