The publication by Die Welt is purely fictional according to an announcement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry. The news agency had reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had ordered the incitement of a conflagration by sinking a Greek warship or shooting down a warplane, with Turkish Armed Forces officials denying the allegations.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry notes in a statement that “today, the news published in the newspaper Die Welt regarding the Eastern Mediterranean about our country is completely fictional”.
“The fact that the Representative of the Greek Government is making accusations against our country based on this fictional news is a new manifestation of the provocative policy of this country in the Eastern Mediterranean, which is disconnected from reality, incompatible with international customs and laws”.
“Instead of dealing with such unfounded news, the Greek authorities should end any moves that escalate tensions in the region”, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. /ibna
