Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will be on an official visit to Brussels from 20 to 22 January 2021 and hold talks with senior European Council and European Commission officials, as well as members of the European Parliament.
Mevlut Çavuşoğlu will also meet with Sophie Wilmes, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade, and the Belgian Federal Cultural Institutions, and Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General for NATO.
All aspects of Turkey-EU relations, Turkey’s accession process, current regional and international issues are expected to be discussed during the talks in Brussels. Turkey’s expectations for progress in Turkey-EU relations will also be conveyed through a positive agenda.
One of the issues that the Turkish Foreign Minister will discuss with the EU Leadership will be the Cyprus issue. In a post on Twitter yesterday, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell noted that “the EU is fully committed to supporting the talks on resolving the Cyprus issue. I spoke with Ersin Tatar and President Nicos Anastasiades about the resumption of talks under the auspices of the UN, in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions. The EU is ready to contribute”./ibna
