Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will be proposing the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group with Egypt, the party’s deputy parliamentary group chairman announced on Tuesday.
“As the AKP parliamentary group, we will present our proposal for the establishment of a friendship group between the Republic of Turkey and Egypt in the President’s Office today,” Bulent Turan, deputy chairman of the party’s parliamentary group, told reporters in parliament.
Turkey and Egypt recently released statements on bilateral relations, signaling the expected resumption of relations after more than seven years of political alienation.
The two countries exchanged positive messages about establishing contacts and dialogue, including the possibility of holding talks on demarcating their maritime borders in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to Turkish media reports. /ibna
