Fourteen emigrants have been hit to death by a train in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The accident has taken place in the early hours of this morning near the city of Veles.
The State Prosecutor said that the causes for this event are being investigated and authorities are also working to find out how the emigrants entered the country.
The majority of victims are said to be from Somalia and Afghanistan.
Rescue operations have been prevented by the difficult terrain, as the location is only accessible on foot.
The emigrants that escape the war, poverty and repression in Middle East and Africa arrive to Balkan by using the region as a way to enter the EU, where they search a better life.
A few days ago, 200 emigrants lost their life in Greece and over 700 others died in Italy. /ibna/
