Trade deficit in Albania increases by 11%

Data on March 2014 which were published today, indicate an increase of 11.4% on February 2014 and 11.2% on March 2013

For the month of March 2014, trade deficit in Albania shows an increase of 11.4%, report official sources from the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

In March 2014 the value of exports was 21 billion ALL, up by 10.3 % on March 2013 and 4.9% on February 2014.

The main groups of goods which saw an increase, compared to the same period of the previous year, were: “Wood manufactures and paper” by 74.5 %, “Chemical and plastic products” by 48.9 % and “Textile and footwear” by 41.3 %. Export of group “Leather and leather manufacture” decreased by 15 %, compared to the same period of the previous year.

In March 2014 the value of imports was 42 billion ALL, increasing by 10.7% compared to March 2013 and 8 % compared to February 2014. The main groups of goods increasing, compared to the same period of the previous year, were: “Textile and footwear” by 26.2%, “Wood manufactures and paper” by 21% and “Construction materials and metals” by 18.2%.

Group of imports: “Chemical and plastical products” decreased by 2.7%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Trade with the EU countries occupies 68.1% of total trade. The main trade partners remain Italy (36.8%), Greece (8.4%), China (5.6%) and Turkey (5%). /ibna/
