According to Brussels, the delivery of reforms are the only way that Albania would be able to launch accession talks next summer. This was declared today by the Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Christian Danielsson.
According to the EU official, the implementation of the reform in the justice system and fight against crime would be considered as key steps in this process.
“Time has come for Albania to take strategic decisions, which will have an impact on its readiness to start negotiations with the EU. I know that several decisions have to be made, but others should ensue. We are expecting the necessary reforms to move forward. The implementation of the judicial reform and the vetting process are very important. We also attach a special importance to the creation of the new institutions of justice. There should also be concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption”, Danielsson said.
On his part, Albanian Foreign minister, Ditmir Bushati said that the process of converging Albanian legislation with the EU legislation has started at chapter 23, which focuses on the application of the rule of law. /ibna/
