Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Tuesday night that the US Department of Homeland Security had announced that the United States had decided to include Croatian citizens in the Visa Waiver Program. “I believe that this will contribute not only to tourist travel but also to further investments and economic exchange between the United States and Croatia,” Plenković emphasized.
He said that this means that, in a few weeks, after the technical preparations are completed, Croatian citizens will be able to travel to the United States without the need to issue visas, which has often been a deterrent.
The Prime Minister also welcomed on Twitter the decision of the US Ministry to include Croatia in the visa exemption program, estimating that this would further strengthen ties between the two countries.
All Croatian citizens will be able to travel to the United States without visas no later than December 1, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Davor Božinović announced on his Twitter profile.
“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, I thank Robert Silvers, Undersecretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, who has just informed me of the official entry of the Republic of Croatia into the Visa Waiver Program.
All Croatian citizens will be able to travel to the United States without visas no later than December 1. This is the end of a long path of negotiations and evaluations, but above all the continuation and strengthening of the strategic partnership of our countries,” Božinović announced.
In a statement for Hina, Božinović assessed that the exemption from visas represents a great achievement, a confirmation of strategic partnership and trust, but also of dedicated work.
“But the greatest value of this decision will be felt by Croatian citizens who will have greater freedom of travel.”
Silvers conveyed the news of Croatia’s official entry into the US visa waiver program to Božinović in a telephone conversation. “The American interlocutor thanked the teams that participated in many years of dedicated work and are deserving of this achievement,” Božinović said.
