The United States appreciates Bulgaria’s efforts to stop malicious actions in the Balkans

The issues of the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States in the field of defense were discussed by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Panayotov and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for NATO Policy and Europe Spencer Boyer. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence, was also attended by Deputy Defence Minister Plamen Yordanov and Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov. It was noted the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in terms of modernization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, conducting joint exercises and training, cooperation in the Black Sea region and in the field of cyber security. At a joint working meeting, the progress made in the implementation of the agreed guidelines for work on the “Roadmap for Defence Cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the United States 2020-2030” was reviewed.

Minister Georgi Panayotov noted that in addition to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, the implementation of the priorities set in the 10-year Roadmap also supports the efforts of the Bulgarian side on the implementation of national commitments related to the NATO force objectives. In this regard, he noted that for the Bulgarian side it is of utmost importance for both parties to continue to implement the agreed priorities and work orientations with a view to achieving concrete and measurable results.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Spencer Boyer noted that the U.S. side appreciates Bulgaria’s actions with regard to deterring malicious security activities in the region and the fair sharing of responsibilities in NATO. He thanked the Bulgarian side for providing opportunities to conduct joint exercises and training with U.S. forces. Spencer Boyer said that Bulgaria is a reliable ally in NATO and expressed the desire of the US side to continue developing and upgrading the intensive defense cooperation between the two countries. He added that, as President Biden confirmed at the Nine Summit in Bucharest in May 2021, the current U.S. administration is committed to strengthening Euro-Atlantic ties./ibna
