The Republic of Kosovo has established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Fiji.
The Agreement on establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed in Tokyo by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Japan, Ahmet Shala and the Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji, Isikeli Uluinairai Mataitoga.
The ceremony of establishing diplomatic relations occurred at the office of the Kosovo Embassy in Tokyo.
The document expresses the willingness of the Kosovo Government and the Fiji Government to encourage mutual understanding and strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.
In addition, the two governments reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the United Nations and of international law, especially those relating to promoting peace and international security, the respect of national independence, equality among states, territorial integrity, international treaties and non-intervention in internal affairs of states.
Fiji recognized Kosovo as independent and sovereign, in November 2012.
Last year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, was in regular contact with leaders of Fiji and held direct meetings with them, and he also visited Fiji, where he met his counterpart Inoke Kubuabola and the Prime Minister of Fiji, asking them to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries.
