The Edirne Court rejected the filed proposal for the release of the two Greek troops by their lawyers, thus extending their detention. The two soldiers were arrested on February 24 for having crossed to Turkish territory illegally.
The court ordered their extended detention on Tuesday, March 27.
According to the decision, “There is certain proof that if the suspects are let free they will flee Turkey because they do not have a permanent address in the country. Not all evidence is gathered yet. It is possible to modify the offenses committed because the research of digital material continues. Considering that two military officials committed the deed, the way it happened and that the maximum limit of the punishment provided by the law is five years, the measure of detention is within the limits of discretion and the decision on judicial control will be inadequate. It was decided that will remain in detention and the latter’s conditions will not be altered”, reads the court announcement…./ ΙΒΝΑ
