The new Attorney General of FYROM will be appointed after the local government election. While the government has launched the procedure for the election of this official, this post will be temporarily held by prosecutor Liljana Spasovska.
The government announced that once the candidates submit their applications, they will be examined by the Public Prosecutors Committee. Given that the local government elections are approaching, it has been decided for the Attorney General to be elected after the 15 October elections.
Under the law, the Attorney General of the country must be voted by 61 out of 120 MPs.
So far, the post of Attorney General was held by Marko Zvrlevski, but he was removed in the recent days upon the request of the new majority, which accuses him of collaborating with the previous government led by Nikola Gruevski and other violations in the domain of justice. Zvrlevski was also heard in the so called wiretapping scandal, talking to government people for the election of judges and prosecutors on court cases. /balkaneu.com/
