Over 61% of citizens in FYROM are in favor of the country’s name change which would enable it to become part of NATO and the European Union. Meanwhile, 33% of them are against the name change. These were the findings of an opinion poll conducted by “Societas Civilis” institute for democracy.
In terms of ethnic groups, 50% of Macedonians are in favor of the name change, while 42 are against.
Among Albanians, 82% of them are in favor of the name change, while 1% is against.
33% of VMRO-DPMNE’s voters are in favor of the name change, while 60% are against. Meanwhile, 76% of SDSM voters are in favor of the name change, while 18% are against.
33% of respondents believe that the name change leads to changes of the country’s identity, while 19% of them think that they are not entirely convinced about this. The opinion poll included around 1 thousand respondents nationwide. /balkaneu.com/
