 The Greek exports are increasing rapidly

The value of Greek exports has increased more than double when compared to the value of imports in April this year, resulting in a 5.2% drop in the country’s trade deficit.

In particular, in April a great increase of the exports, at an annual rate of 12.1% a year, was recorded, and the exports amounted to EUR 2.93 billion. Excluding petroleum products, exports increased by 11.7% (EUR 203.1 million), while excluding petroleum products and ships, they increased by EUR 216.7 million, or 12.6%.

The total value of imports was EUR 4.585 billion compared to EUR 4.361 billion in the same month last year (+ 5.1%). Excluding petroleum products, it increased by EUR 314.2 million, or 10.3%, while excluding petroleum products and ships it increased by EUR 337.1 million, or 11.3%.

The trade deficit stood at EUR 1,654.3 million in April, from EUR 1,745.5 million in the same month of 2018, presenting a decrease of 5.2%. Excluding petroleum products, the deficit grew by EUR 111.1 million, or 8.4%, while without petroleum products and ships it increased by EUR 120.4 million, or 9.5%.

The image of the quarter

For the whole quarter, the total value of imports amounted to EUR 18,559.6 million compared to EUR 17,552.9 million in the same period of 2018, showing an increase of 5.7%. Excluding petroleum products, it posted an increase of EUR 922.7 million, or 7.2%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, it increased by EUR 871.3 million, or 7.1%.

The total value of exports during the period January-April 2019 amounted to EUR 10,942.7 million compared to EUR 10,483.2 million during the same period of 2018, showing an increase of 4.4%. The corresponding change without petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 436.4 million, or 6.1%, and the corresponding change without petroleum products and ships increased by EUR 439.4 million, or 6.2%.

The trade deficit for the quarter stood at EUR 7,616.9 million, compared to EUR 7,069.7 million in the same period in 2018 (+7.7%). Without petroleum products, it increased by EUR 486.3 million (+ 8.6%), and without petroleum products and ships it increased by EUR 431.9 million (+8.3%)./ibna
