The elected president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci has taken his oath today in front of the parliament of the country in a solemn session which saw the participation of the current president, Atifete Jahjaga and the ambassadors of the EU countries and USA.
During this session, Thaci swore that he would be “a unifying president who will guarantee the Constitution”.
“Now I shall assume a new duty, for a democratic and multi-ethnic Kosovo. I hope and believe in our citizens, in our institutions”, Thaci said.
“Our scope and vision is integration in the EU and NATO and friendship with the USA”, said the new president of Kosovo, pledging that he would engage for rule of law and fight against crime and corruption.
“We will finalize the process of the establishment of the Armed Forces of Kosovo. The state of Kosovo is being affirmed every day. This year, for the first time, Kosovo will participate in the Olympic Games and we are working to become members of FIFA and UEFA”, he said.
Thaci also expressed the readiness of the state of Kosovo to normalize relations with Serbia.
“We cannot change the past, but we must work in order not to repeat it. Dialogue has no alternative, but now it must have a new dynamic”, he declared.
While Thaci was delivering his address, unknown people have thrown stones toward the parliament house and a glass was broken. However, the session continued. /ibna/
