The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, held a telephone conversation today with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, with whom he discussed the European perspective and developments in Kosovo and the region.
President Thaçi and the EU High Representative agreed on the need to establish new governing institutions in Kosovo as soon as possible.
“We are aware that great tasks await us and that it is necessary as soon as possible to have a new Government, which will face the challenges and fulfill the international obligations that Kosovo has”, President Thaçi said.
He emphasized that Kosovo is committed to completing the reforms it has initiated which are crucial for Kosovo’s EU membership.
Thaçi demanded that the EU fulfills its obligation to abolish the visa for Kosovo citizens, because he argues that Kosovo has met all the necessary criteria.
“Kosovo has fulfilled all conditions. The European Parliament and the European Commission have recommended the abolition of visas for Kosovo. The citizens of Kosovo rightly expect a meritorious decision at this point”, President Thaçi said in a telephone conversation with High Representative Borrell.
President Thaçi and the EU High Representative agreed on the need for continued unconditional dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as on the necessity of reaching a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, which implies mutual recognition between the two states.
At the end of the conversation, President Thaçi said he welcomed the visit of the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, to the Republic of Kosovo./ibna
