Thaçi-Dacic talks conclude without an agreement, Ashton: there will be no more meetings

Brussels, April 3, 2013

The Brussels meeting between Kosovoar PM Hashim Thaçi and his Serb counterpart Ivica Dacic, mediated by Baroness Catherine Ashton, ended shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

No agreement was reached from the marathon meeting. Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi blamed the failure on Serbia.

“Prishtina was prepared to reach an agreement but the Serb side has maintained unprincipled positions,” Thaçi said to the press after the meeting.

He reiterated the willingness of the Prishtina side to reach an agreement. Thaçi added that an eventual agreement would not violate the Ahtisaari Package provisions.

“We have come here with the goodwill to reach an agreement. We have presented our goal and our position in full respect of the Constituion of Kosovo. Serbia is being reluctant and trying to win time, just like it did in the past,” Kosovo’s Prime Minister stated.

In the meantime, Ashton informed the media that this was the last formal meeting organized bu the EU.

“The parties continue to have major differences. There will be no more formal meetings betweeen the parties. They will go to their Capitals and I hope that they will come to me with specific proposals,” Ashton said on her remarks to the press after midnight.

I wish them a safe trip home and success in reaching conclusions,” Ashton said. /ibna/
