President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci and president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic have met in Sofia on Wednesday in the presence of the EU head of foreign policy, Federica Mogherini.
A statement released by Mrs. Mogherini’s office says that “both leaders confirmed their readiness to work intensively with the head of the EU foreign policy to normalize relations, which is a decisive element for the transformation for the entire region. Given that relations in Western Balkans are very important for the European Union, this year, it’s important that Serbia and Kosovo push their European aspirations forward”.
Meanwhile, president Thaci said that “we agreed for the final phase of the dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia to start in the near future, with the help of the EU, USA and other key players”.
He also said that this new momentum requires the involvement of all political forces, civil society and media in Kosovo, because ultimately, the process will result in Kosovo’s recognition by Serbia and Kosovo’s accession in the NATO.
The Serb president, Aleksandar Vucic also said that he has “exchanged a few words of courtesy” with the president of Kosovo, while to Mrs. Mogherini, he has told that Serbia is always ready to continue talks with Kosovo if Kosovo is willing to reach a compromise. /ibna/
