Ministry of Interior in FYR Macedonia has declared that the risk that terrorism and Islamic extremism poses to the country is very low and that the institutions of the country are following this situation.

“We’re prepared at any moment to react in a responsible way. It goes without saying that at this moment, there are general risks, because FYROM is part of an international coalition for the war against terrorism. Nevertheless, the level of risk in the country is low”, declared the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, Ivo Kotevski.

Kotevski has not commented what some of the media wrote about the possibility of the arrest of people suspected of participation in the recent conflicts in Syria and Iraq alongside ISIS jihadists.

Kotevski said that security institutions are following the situation and are open for cooperation with other countries of the region.

Some media have written that there are groups in Skopje suspected of organizing and recruiting young people to fight alongside Islamic terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria.

So far, around 11 FYROM nationals have lost their life in these countries where conflicts are taking place, but there are no accurate figures about the participation of nationals from this country in the conflict. The parliament of the country has approved a law for which sanctions all citizens who participate in foreign conflicts and these people may be sentenced up to  years in prison. /ibna/
