Turkey’s intervention in the upcoming elections of March 26 in Bulgaria has caused a diplomatic incident between the two countries. Bulgaria called their Ambassador to Ankara Nadejda Neynski back to Sofia, for consultations according to turkish newspaper Hurriyet. The decision was taken based on information gathered concerning Turkey’s intervention in the country’s interior.
Last week the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry had summoned the Turkish Ambassador in Sofia, Suleyman Gokce and requested explanations as Turkish Minister of Labor and Social Security Mehmet Muezinoglu expressed his support to the Turkish DOST party.
The DOST party was founded by Lutfu Mestan who in 2015 was thrown out of the Rights and Freedom party which supports positions of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria./IBNA
