Protected witness in a murder investigation editor of the daily “Dan” Dusko Jovanovic, was heard in the High Public Prosecution Office in Podgorica. Ten years after the murder, the police and the prosecution did not solve the case, while in prison is only one person who is convicted for assisting in the commission of the crime. The investigation into the murder of Jovanovic, after a long pause, opened in January 2014. It is expected that the prosecution will soon announce whether the testimony of a witness have enough new information and whether he will officially receive the status of cooperative witness.
The protected witness who appeared in a murder case of editor of the daily newspaper “Dan”, said to newspaper “Vijesti” that he spoke with prosecutor more than two hours about his knowledge about a murder of Jovanovic. The witness said that he told some of his well-known details that preceded the murder. My statement was also recorded with the camera. I was told not to appear in public, because I’ll probably get the status of a protected witness”,said he.
In the prosecutor’s office nobody wanted to confirm the information that in the murder of of editor of the daily newspaper “Dan” was examined a protected witness. It is expected that the prosecution now assess the credibility of witnesses and make a decision on his status. Possible protected witness said that in recent days he received indirect threats. He said that he repeatedly received threats because he spoke to the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, asking them for the status of a protected witness. I told prosecution who threatened me, by their names, said he.

Duško Jovanović, editor of the opposition-minded newspaper “Dan” was killed with an automatic weapon on the night of May 27, 2004, as he was leaving his editorial. Jovanović was killed in an ambush in front of the editorial ” DAN”. The assassins shot him as he was getting into his car. Almost a decade after the murder, it is not yet known who was the man responsible and the motive behind this crime. During the investigation, which was conducted after the murder, the police was able to come up with only one suspect who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for complicity in the murder. With the charges that he participated in the preparation and execution of the murder, Damir Mandić, has been sentenced to 18 years of prison and at the trial he refused to talk about the other participants. Mandić is accused of driving the car from which the shots were fired at Jovanović, but never admitted that he did.
