Horia Tecău and Jean-Julien Rojer have completed a memorable week at the ATP World Tour Finals in London. They won the title, less than 24 hours after they had clinched year-end No. 1 in the ATP Doubles Team Rankings.
Second seeds Tecău and Rojer defeated eighth seeds Florin Mergea and Rohan Bopanna in straight sets: 6-4, 6-3. Thus, they captured their 11th team title and third of the year, which includes their maiden Grand Slam at Wimbledon.
Tecău and Rojer are the first doubles team to win the season finale without losing a set since round-robin play began in 1986. Even though they started as team mates and have a Wimbledon title together in the boys’ tournament, Romanians Tecău and Mergea went their separate ways. They’re still good friends and there are rumors that they may recreate their former golden duo.
