The general strike in the education system in FYR Macedonia ends and schools and kindergartens are open again for pupils and children. This was decided last night after a meeting held between unions and Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor and Social Policies.
The teachers union informed that a compromise has been reached on the demand of strikers. The strike began at the start of the second semester on January 20, while the demands consisted of a salary increase by 25% for teachers, the lifting of penalties for teachers and other concessions that relate to the teaching process.
The pay rise has remained an issue which will be examined in a later period in the talks between the union and responsible ministries.
Ministry of Education said that stances have been harmonized. The accord came after the meeting of the union to hold massive protests throughout the country, as a sign of discontent against institutions for neglecting their demands. /ibna/
