In the framework of his visit to the United States of America, Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci delivered a lecture in the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at “John Hopkins” University in Washington, in front of academics, students and former American state officials.
In his presentation, Foreign Minister Thaci talked about the achievements and challenges of Kosovo and the aspirations of the new state to become an EU and NATO member, by preserving special relations with the United States of America.
According to him, the continuation of US support is important for Kosovo and the region, Foreign Minister Thaci said that the EU and NATO are not doing as much to approach Kosovo and the region and this is giving way to the growing negative impact of Russia and ISIS.
Thaci added that the United States of America have a political and military presence in Kosovo and that economic presence is also growing in the form of investments. “Kosovo is proud to be the most pro American country in the world and it will remain a strategic partner for the US and a promoter of joint values”, said he.
Participants in this meeting wanted to know more about the ways that the US can be active in the region, about dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and consolidation of the state of Kosovo.
Daniel Server from SAIS, who hosted the meeting, said that Kosovo is better off today than 15 years ago during the war, in spite of the challenges of transition and EU integration and that things in Kosovo continue to improve and that Kosovo has a good perspective. /ibna/
