Deputy Economy, Development and Tourism Minister Alexis Charitsis had a meeting with representatives of Greenpeace and said that the government considers supporting a program for accumulators used in photovoltaic systems to store the energy produced, with the goal of opening a new market and create new jobs in the area. The Minister and the representatives of Greenpeace also discussed exploiting additional financial tools, such as the Jessica program (Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Areas), to support projects that improve energy efficiency, emphasizing the tertiary sector and industry.
Charitsis also said that Greece, despite the crisis, has planned to allocate about 20% of the total resources of the Structural Funds in interventions against climate change, which exceeds the country’s obligation, under international agreements.
